IM GREEN POLYETHYLENE – SUGAR CANE POLYTHENE

Technology, innovation and sustainability. I’m greenTM  is the result of this combination.

I’m greenTM polyethylene is a plastic produced from sugarcane, a renewable raw material. Being a renewable feedstock, sugarcane captures and fixes CO2 from the atmosphere every growth cycle, which occurs annually. This means that the production of I’m greenTM polyethylene contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions when compared to conventional polyethylene, made from fossil materials. As a result the carbon footprint of I’m greenTM polyethylene is negative.

Braskem also takes care with sustainability in its relationship with its ethanol suppliers. From the planting of sugarcane to the production of ethanol, suppliers must meet the principles of sustainable development present in the “Responsible Ethanol Sourcing” developed and implemented by Braskem, which covers aspects such as respect for biodiversity and good environmental practices.

How is it made?

At Braskem’s plant, sugarcane ethanol is received from suppliers and undergoes a dehydration process where it is transformed into green ethylene, the monomer that feeds the polymerization plants where the I’m green™ Polyethylene is produced. The sugarcane plastic then goes to third-generation companies (i.e., manufacturers or converters), which transform it into plastic products.

Is it recyclable?

I’m greenTM polyethylene is a 100% recyclable material. It can be recycled normally using processes already in existance.
